I am going to be traveling alone with my two children 11 and 9 years old. My husband is very worried about me traveling alone. I am going from Tocumen to Albrook airport by cab. Do you feel this is safe? I am meeting my father in David. I am worried about the cab ride I have a cab drivers number we used when my husband and I went in March he was very nice and speaks english. I am worried about him seeing I am alone and taking me somewhere and hurting my children and I. Have you ever heard of anything like this happening in Panama? Please respond back to me by email I appreciate your assistance

Great suggestions Patrick, I would consider if you are going to be near Gamboa and the Chagres river, visiting the monkey island. It combines activities in the lake and interaction with 4 different species of monkey. Bocas del Toro is another great option for Panama Tourism.

Cheers and thanks for the article.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Panama widens out east-west for 400 gold panning miles connecting South and Central America. One can see the sun rise over the Pacific and set in the Atlantic, with splendid views of the ships drifting through the Panama Canal from the Atlantic Ocean.People are seen planning for gold along the banks of the Rio Boqueron. One can check out the amazing wild life in The Darein National Park. For more details refer http://www.journeyidea.com/travel-panama-city-gold-panning-paradise-part-i/

Steve

Public transportation is widely available and cheap in Panama, from buses to taxis. pretty much anywhere in the country you want to go you can reach but public transportation; however, renting a car gives you the freedom to do whatever you want. However, it is also going to significantly increase your budget.

in panama you have to be 25 years old to rent a car. you can also rent if you are 21-24, but most companies dont let youngsters rent larger models and there is always an added daily charge.

its wise to rent from one of the established names in car rental. hertz, dollar, budget, avis, etc etc are all in the country and its just a better bet than risking it with unknown renters

the price greatly depends on what car you want and when you want it. there is the high season (dec 15-ap 15) and the low season (ap 16-dec 14). prices will be a bit higher during the high season, but great deals can be found in the low season.

panama may be a tropical third world country, but the road system is quite good. unless you are really, really getting offroad then a good quality midsize will do just fine. depending on the make, a midsize will run about $100-250 a week during the low season, and $30-50 more during the high season.

suvs, vans, and pickups cost more - between 280-500 bucks a week in the low season and about $80 more in the high season.

insurance works much the same way as in the states, with either bulk package protection or a pick and choose approach. Some protection choices include

Minimum Protection Package
ILP: Increaced Liability Protection
DDW: Deductible Damage Waiver
PPC: Personal Protection Coverage
ERA: Emergency Roadside Assistance
these protection options will run from $6 to $25 dollars a day depending on the car

you can also use your U.S. insurance if it can be applied
