What Denny says above is partially true. The actual numbers (at this time)are $1000 for pensioners, or for rentistas, a minimum balance of $150,000 AND IN ADDITION, $2,500 income per month from a dependable and proven source. Again.............here in C.R. ALL is subject to change at glacial speed and comtinue to defy logic and reason.

I can say Costa Rica is a great country for living, but it is true! the country is expensive. If you want to stay here you will have to prepare the wallet.

According to my research your figures are way off. Pensioners requirements have increased to $1000 and rentistas to $2500 or a deposit of $150000 in a Costa rican bank. All quite affordable. This is from an official source. I would recommend you get your figures right before you scare the crap out of people wanting to leave the money grubbing USA.

10 Annoying Things American Tourists Shouldn't Do in other countries

Stop talking about how “cheap” everything is.

Stop talking so damned loud.

Read something about the country you’re visiting before you get on the plane.

Do not assume people speak English.

Don’t assume people don’t speak English.

Don’t ask people what communism/socialism was like, and don’t pretend to understand it.

Don’t mention the Nazis when traveling through Germany

Don’t get into pointless political arguments.
Don’t "educate" people.
Don’t talk about how much better something is in America.

I live in US and will be retiring next year. I am contemplating to retire in CR and presently looking at property to purchase in San Isidro General. Is this change and other changes to come will make CR no longer a choice place/country to retire???

Thank you for the very informative article.

What shame they upped the limit. Seriously. What are they trying to do; keep the "riff-raff" out? Sounds too much like the US and their ridicilous laws and rules. It's just more oppression against people with lower incomes, which is completely unjust because a lot of us despise the states and all it stands for. But for reasons I won't say, have a limited income.
I had hoped there existed a country that isn't based solely on greed, and now I'm having my doubts about CR as well.
